This project ended on 31st December, 2016.
The CBI Export Coaching Programme aimed at improving the competitive position of the engineering and metalworking sector in Pakistan by addressing the obstacles identified in the Value Chain Analysis and to support individual companies in their export activities.
The project operated at two levels; company and institutional level.
At company level it aimed to assist 28 selected companies directly as participant through the ECP modules and another 15 indirectly through the BSO Development Program.
Selection process the CBI ECP consisted of:
- Applying to CBI on www.cbi.eu
- A pre-audit by CBI Local Expert to assess suitability of Candidate Company and its management for the ECP.
- An Audit by two CBI Experts to determine the level and direction of assistance needed by the applicant company
Selected Companies were guided through various stages to be able to write for themselves a sustainable Export Marketing Plan, while CBI Experts help the company bridge skill and other gaps needed for becoming export ready.

CBI- BSO CAPACITY BUILDING PROGRAM:
CBI identified the following business support organisations (BSO) which could impact export of engineering sector exports from Pakistan:
- Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts & Accessories Manufacturers (PAAPAM)
- Pakistan Foundry Association (PFA)
- Engineering Development Board (EDB)
- Small & Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA)
- National Productivity Organization(NPO)
- Trade Development of Pakistan (TDAP)
Objective of the BSOD Program was to build capacity of local BSOs to continue to support the engineering manufacturing and export sector of Pakistan. Successful implementation was expected to result in sustainable development and growth of engineering goods export from Pakistan.
Along the way, more BSOs were be trained through locally trained resource persons.
This effort resulted in the creation of PAAPAM Skill Development Centers at Lahore and Karachi, where the core team was trained through CBI BSOD. Under guidance from CBI Experts, these centers have already become independently sustainable and have started playing their part in imparting skills which are needed in the manufacturing sector. It is expected that in the near future, CBI may partner with the PSDC for a local ECP in Pakistan.
